inZOI Rulebreaker Trait: The Crime Unlock Explained

Updated

inZOI Rulebreaker Trait

Rulebreaker is one of three traits added in the v0.4.0 mentality rework on October 30, 2025, replacing Collaborator.

It matters more than the other two, because of something added two months later.

This trait unlocks crime

Since v0.5.0 in December 2025, holding the Rulebreaker trait is one of three conditions that unlock the first crime interaction at Crime Skill Lv.0. The others are owning 2,000 Mew or less while struggling with debt, and holding the Malicious characteristic.

If you loaded an old save and found a previously law-abiding Zoi being offered lockpicking and voice phishing, this is the chain that did it. Collaborator became Rulebreaker automatically, then Rulebreaker became a crime unlock.

Where it came from

The October update merged three overlapping traits away and added three new ones in their place. The mapping was positional rather than thematic, so the personality you get bears little resemblance to the one you lost.

Collaborator was safety-oriented, prudent, and good at building friendships and family relationships. Rulebreaker is close to the opposite.

What's confirmed

Krafton has never published a full effect table for the new traits the way it did for the original 18, so what follows is what the patch notes actually state:

  • Added in v0.4.0, October 30, 2025.
  • Existing Collaborator Zois convert to it automatically on load. You aren't asked.
  • Unlocks the first crime interaction at Crime Skill Lv.0 (v0.5.0).
  • Works with setTrait, which accepts all 18 traits.

For the emotion tendencies and gauge modifiers, check the Zoi Card in game. The trait description there is the authoritative source, and we'd rather point you at it than guess.

What crime actually involves

If you keep the trait and follow where it leads, the crime and trials system covers:

  • Theft. Pick Door Lock, Break Down Door, Open Safe, Sabotage Surveillance Camera. Success scales with Handiwork, Programming and Fitness.
  • Scams. Voice phishing, fake charity work, fake seminars. Success scales with Rhetoric and Critical Thinking.
  • Getting caught. Witnesses call the police. You may be fined, arrested, or left wanted for a day.
  • Trial. Post bail, hire a lawyer, and stand in court, where guilty is the usual verdict.

Since v0.8.0 in April 2026, reaching Crime skill level 5 also unlocks criminal masks from the Suspicious Job Agency, which make nearby witnesses flee rather than call the police.

How to remove it

If you'd rather your converted Zoi wasn't on this path:

setTrait [ZoiID] [TraitID] [CharacteristicID] [CharacteristicID]

Run showZoiInfo true first to get the Zoi ID. Full instructions on the cheats page.

Check the characteristics at the same time. Converted saves had two assigned at random, and if Malicious is one of them your Zoi keeps a crime unlock even after the trait changes.

Update history

  • October 30, 2025. v0.4.0 added Rulebreaker and converted all Collaborator Zois to it.
  • December 23, 2025. v0.5.0 made it an unlock condition for the Crime skill, retroactively changing what that conversion meant.
  • June 19, 2026. v0.9.0 made traits drift on their own when a Zoi repeatedly acts against them.
