inZOI Life Stages Explained: Aging, Lifespans, and Unlocks

Embark on the journey of life with your Zois in inZOI! From the first moments as a Newborn to the wisdom of a Senior, each life stage brings unique changes, challenges, and opportunities. Understanding these stages is key to guiding your Zois through their virtual lives.

This guide details all nine life stages in inZOI, their durations, appearance changes, and the gameplay features unlocked along the way.

List of All Life Stages in inZOI

Zois progress through nine distinct life stages. While you can start a new game with Zois from Child to Senior, the earliest stages (Newborn, Toddler) and the transitional Adolescent stage are experienced through gameplay as your Zois age.

Appearance Changes Through Life Stages

As Zois age, their appearance naturally changes. These changes are specific to each age group and cannot be customized within that stage (e.g., you cannot make a Young Adult look like a Senior). Key visual differences include:

  • Height: Zois grow taller as they age from Child to Young Adult. Height remains relatively consistent through adulthood and may slightly decrease in the Senior stage.
  • Posture: Posture evolves, becoming more upright into adulthood and potentially slightly stooped in the Senior stage.
  • Wrinkles & Hair: Visible signs of aging like wrinkles appear and deepen in the Middle-Aged and Senior stages. Hair may start showing gray or white strands in these later stages.

Lifespan for Each Age Group

Each life stage has a fixed duration in inZOI, measured in in-game days. Zois will automatically transition to the next stage once the duration is complete.

Age GroupLifespan (In-Game Days)Estimated Real-Life Age Range
Newborn1 day0-1 years
Toddler2 days1-3 years
Child7 days4-12 years
Adolescent5 days13-15 years
Teenager4 days16-19 years
Young Adult10 days20-29 years
Adult20 days30-49 years
Middle-Aged16 days50-64 years
Senior*Up to 35 days65+ years

*Seniors can live up to a maximum of 35 days in this stage, but there's a high chance they may pass away from old age naturally before reaching the maximum duration.

The total default lifespan appears to be around 100 in-game days. Currently, there's no in-game way to track the exact number of days remaining in a Zoi's current life stage.

Managing Aging in inZOI

Automatic Aging

By default, Zois age automatically according to the lifespans listed above.

How to Disable Aging in inZOI

If you prefer your Zois (or the entire city) to stay at their current age indefinitely, you can disable aging:

  1. Open the Options menu (Esc key).
  2. Navigate to the Simulation tab.
  3. Find the Aging (My Zois) and Aging (Other Zois) settings.
  4. Toggle them to Disable as desired. You can disable aging for just your household, just the townies, or both.

Disable Aging in Game Options

Speeding Up Aging

While you can't instantly age up a Zoi with a birthday cake (like in some other life sims), you can make time pass faster:

  • Game Speed: Use the playback speed controls (0, 1, 2, 3, 4 keys) at the bottom-left to fast-forward time. Be mindful of Zoi needs when playing at high speeds.
  • Length of Day: In the Options > Simulation menu, you can adjust the Length of Day. The default is 48 real-life minutes per in-game day — it was 96 until v0.4.0 halved it in October 2025. Lengthening it (up to 24 hours) slows ageing relative to real-world playtime; shortening it speeds it up. See time and aging.

High school (since June 2026)

v0.9.0 turned high school from a rabbit hole into active gameplay. School properties exist in all three cities, and Teenagers enrol and attend the same school until they graduate as Young Adults.

  • Classes on a timetable — Science, Art, Skill, Physical Education, and General.
  • Tests every Thursday, with grades combining test scores and classroom behaviour. Poor grades bring warnings and eventually expulsion.
  • Lockers, a cafeteria, and interactions with students and teachers.
  • Clubs — cooking, fitness, cheerleading, programming and more, each with skill requirements to join, and each unlocking club-specific outfits.
  • Prom — invite a partner directly or leave a note in their locker. Prom King and Queen are voted for, and after-parties follow depending on relationships.
  • Graduation ceremony on completing the curriculum.

Each active school has a limited student capacity; once full, other Zois attend a rabbit hole school instead. You can request a transfer through the school phone app, and grades carry over.

Two things to watch

Canvas creations built on the old school property may not be compatible with the new one. And v0.9.2 had to reduce natural disaster frequency because disasters were cancelling school schedules constantly.

Update history

  • June 13, 2025 (v0.2.0)teenage romance interactions, and age restrictions tightened to prevent unintended NPC pregnancies.
  • October 30, 2025 (v0.4.0) — the default in-game day changed from 96 to 48 minutes, and lifespans for Zois created as Seniors were extended so they no longer die almost immediately. Newborn, toddler, and child interactions were expanded. Death gained a new chapter with playable ghosts.
  • December 23, 2025 (v0.5.0) — a second wave of parenting interactions, a Family Tree for tracking lineage, and fear-based urges tied to adolescent worries about the future and to pivotal life events like marriage and childbirth.
  • March 26, 2026 (v0.7.0)birthdays now gate ageing up. A Zoi advances on their birthday after either blowing out candles at a birthday party or spending the birthday alone. A 28-day calendar tracks birthdays and pregnancy due dates. Newborns are born without teeth and grow them, and babies became customizable in Edit Appearance.
  • March–April 2026v0.7.2 fixed Zois ageing despite Age Off, and v0.7.3 confirmed the rule: "Grow Up" and blowing out candles age a Zoi regardless of the Disable Aging setting.
  • June 19, 2026 (v0.9.0)playable high school, teenage ambitions, baby traits whose developed values influence which traits a Zoi inherits, and babies that can get sick.
