Can My Zois Have Children? Having Babies in inZOI Explained

Expanding a Zoi family with children is a core part of the life simulation experience for many players.

Can Zois in the game Have Children?

Yes, they absolutely can! There are a couple of ways to add younger Zois to your household, either through gameplay or during initial setup.

Method 1: Pregnancy (The Natural Way)

The primary way for Zois to have biological children during gameplay is through pregnancy.

  1. No marriage requirement. Since the June 13, 2025 update, Zois can have children regardless of marital status. At Early Access launch "Suggest Having a Baby" was married-couples-only. See How to Get Married Guide.
  2. Relationship Level: While not explicitly gated, a positive romantic relationship is generally needed for the interaction to appear readily or succeed. See Relationships Explained.
  3. Gender Requirement: Natural pregnancy still requires one Male and one Female Zoi. Same-sex couples build families through adoption or medical help instead — both available since June 2025.
  4. Initiate the Interaction: Select one Zoi, click on their partner, navigate to Romance interactions, and choose "Suggest Having a Baby".
  5. Confirmation & "WooHoo": If the interaction is accepted, the Zois will typically go to a bed for a censored "Set the Mood" (WooHoo) sequence (often obscured by hearts/effects).
  6. Pregnancy Test: Afterward, the female Zoi will often get a notification or a moodlet prompting them to Take a Pregnancy Test (usually by interacting with a toilet). Clicking the notification or the toilet will trigger the test.
  7. Confirmation: A pop-up notification will confirm whether the pregnancy was successful.
  8. Pregnancy Stages: If successful, the pregnant Zoi will go through pregnancy, typically lasting around 3 in-game days. You might notice mood swings, specific urges (like cravings), and eventually, a visible baby bump. Editing the pregnant Zoi's appearance is usually disabled during this time.
  9. Giving Birth: After the 3 days, a notification "Give Birth" will appear near the pregnant Zoi's portrait. Clicking this (or waiting for it to happen automatically) triggers a short cutscene (often implying a hospital visit), after which a Newborn Zoi appears in a crib in the household. You'll be prompted to name the baby.

Method 2: Adoption and Medical Help

Adoption shipped with the June 13, 2025 update (v0.2.0), alongside a second route using genetics. Both are accessed from a computer or laptop.

  • Adopt a Child — available to single Zois and couples of any gender combination. Most of the prerequisites originally planned for the system were removed before launch to make family-building easier.
  • Create a Child with Medical Help (1,000 Mew) — pick a Zoi whose traits you want and have a child using their genetic information.

Together these are the route for same-sex couples and single Zois to have children.

Newborn hair bug

v0.3.5 fixed some babies' hair appearing missing on the Adoption screen, if you're on an older build.

Method 3: Creating Children in Create-a-Zoi (CAZ)

When you first create your family, you aren't limited to just adults.

  • Adding Children: In CAZ, after creating your initial Zoi(s), you can click the "+" icon to add more family members. You can set their age group to Child or Teenager.
  • Setting Relationships: When adding members, you define their relationship to the existing Zoi(s) (e.g., "Son," "Daughter," "Sibling").

This method allows you to start a game with an already established family unit including children, skipping the baby and toddler stages if desired.

Important Limitations & Considerations

  • Household Size Limit: A household can have a maximum of 8 Zois. If your household is already full, any attempt to "Suggest Having a Baby" will automatically fail. Someone needs to move out or pass away to make room for a newborn via pregnancy.
  • Age Restrictions: Only Zois aged Young Adult or older can initiate pregnancy or adoption. Children and Teens cannot have children — v0.2.0 added age restrictions specifically to prevent unintended NPC pregnancies.
  • Twins/Triplets: While not explicitly confirmed as a controllable feature, early promotional material and gameplay hints suggest that having twins (or more) might be possible through pregnancy, likely as a random chance event.

In conclusion, yes, your Zois can definitely have children — through pregnancy, through adoption, or through medical help, with none of it requiring marriage. And, of course, you can always start your story with children directly from Create-a-Zoi.

Parenting has grown a lot since launch

If your last look at inZOI was the Early Access build, raising a child is a much deeper experience now. See the pregnancy and family guide for the full picture, but in short: v0.4.0 added interactions like "Give Formula", "Give Snack", "Do Baby Stretches", and "Reprimand", and v0.5.0 added "Comfort", "Bully", "Wipe Nose", "Give Medicine", "Throw a Fit to Be Tucked In", and more, with improved animations throughout.

Update history

  • Early Access launch (March 2025) — Zois could not have children. Pregnancy and family growth were roadmap items.
  • May 2025 — targeted for the May update per the development roadmap, then delayed with the rest of that update.
  • June 6, 2025 — Kjun's letter detailed the approach: children regardless of marital status, simplified adoption, and genetic parenthood.
  • June 13, 2025 (v0.2.0) — shipped. Adopt a Child and Create a Child with Medical Help (1,000 Mew) are accessed from a computer or laptop, non-marital birth is supported, and newborn interactions like Laugh, Cry, and Change Diaper were added. Age restrictions were also added to prevent unintended NPC pregnancies.
  • September 2025v0.3.5 fixed pregnant Zois occasionally being unable to give birth and missing hair on the Adoption screen.
  • October 30, 2025v0.4.0 added newborn, toddler, and child interactions including "Give Formula", "Give Snack", "Do Baby Stretches", and "Reprimand".
  • December 23, 2025v0.5.0 added a second wave of parenting interactions ("Comfort", "Bully", "Wipe Nose", "Give Medicine", "Throw a Fit to Be Tucked In", "Hug Teddy Bear") with improved animations, plus family trees on the Zoi Card.
  • January 9, 2026v0.5.3 fixed childbirth being impossible in certain situations.
