InZOI Personality Traits Explained

Your Zoi's trait is the single biggest decision in character creation. It shapes which emotions they sit in by default, how fast their needs drain, which relationships come easily, and what they do when you leave them to their own devices.

This page covers every trait in the game, what each one actually does, and which ones no longer exist.

What are Traits in inZOI?

Traits are the core personality types you assign to your Zoi during character creation. Think of them as the fundamental building blocks of your Zoi's identity. Here's what you need to know:

  • Personality Foundation: Traits dictate a Zoi's inherent personality, influencing how they react to situations, their default Values, and the kinds of Urges they experience.
  • Gameplay Impact: They affect various gameplay mechanics, including the rate at which Needs like Energy or Social decay, how easily they form certain Relationships, and the Moods they tend to feel.
  • One Trait Per Zoi: Each Zoi can only have one Trait assigned.
  • Changeable with cheats: Traits are still a creation-time choice in the UI, but since the October 2025 update you can change them afterwards with the setTrait cheat.
  • Inspired By: The developers have mentioned the trait system is partly based on personality frameworks like Myers-Briggs (MBTI) and Enneagram types.

The v0.4.0 update reworked the whole mentality system. Entertainer, Volunteer, and Collaborator were removed, and three new traits took their place. On existing saves the conversion is automatic and happens on load:

EntertainerTroublemaker
VolunteerRecluse
CollaboratorRulebreaker

Two more traits arrived in June 2026: Philandering and Single-Hearted, covering opposite ends of romantic behaviour.

The same update added Characteristics, a separate second layer of personality. See the new system below.

The October 2025 mentality rework

Traits are no longer the whole picture. v0.4.0 folded traits, characteristics, ambitions, and urges into one integrated mentality system.

Characteristics

Each Zoi can hold up to two characteristics that don't conflict with each other, drawn from 15 options including Extroverted, Depressed, Bookworm, Emotionally Needy, Fitness Enthusiast, and Slacker. On existing saves, two are assigned at random. You can change them with the setTrait cheat, which takes a trait and up to two characteristic IDs at once.

A 16th, Workaholic, was added in v0.5.0 in December 2025. Driven and diligent, anxious when out of work. It can't be combined with the Recluse trait or the Slacker characteristic.

Ambitions are no longer random

Previously assigned at random, ambitions are now chosen by you during Zoi creation, and NPC Zois get ambitions that match their traits.

Urges are trait-driven

Over 140 new urges were added and 120 reworked around traits and characteristics, and they now surface based on a Zoi's age, relationships, and situation rather than appearing at random.

Traits added since launch

Krafton published full effect tables for the original 18 traits. It has not done the same for the five added since, so those pages cover what the patch notes confirm and point you at the Zoi Card in game for the rest.

TraitAddedNotes
RulebreakerOct 2025Replaced Collaborator. Unlocks crime interactions at Crime Skill Lv.0.
RecluseOct 2025Replaced Volunteer. Cannot be combined with the Workaholic characteristic.
TroublemakerOct 2025Replaced Entertainer.
PhilanderingJun 2026Added with Single-Hearted for polarised romantic behaviour.
Single-HeartedJun 2026The loyal counterpart to Philandering.

List of All inZOI Traits

The table below covers the original 18, including Entertainer, Volunteer, and Collaborator. Those three are no longer selectable, and their rows are kept because plenty of older guides still reference them and because they explain what your converted Zoi used to be.

Best Traits to Choose in inZOI

While the "best" trait ultimately depends on the story you want to tell and your preferred playstyle, some traits offer distinct advantages:

  • Scholar: Great for skill-building, as the Sleep gauge decreases slower, allowing more time for activities. Ideal for Zois focused on knowledge and learning.
  • Charmer: Excellent for players focused on romance, as it makes building romantic relationships easier. Be mindful that Sadness lasts longer.
  • Adventurer: Similar to Scholar, the slower decrease in the Energy gauge provides more time for activities and exploration. Great for Zois seeking excitement.
  • Socialite: Builds relationships with anyone easily and enjoys conversation. The strongest remaining pick for a socially connected Zoi now that Volunteer has been removed.
  • Individualist: Ideal for solo playthroughs or Zois who prefer solitude, as the Social gauge decreases slowly. However, forming connections is harder.

Ultimately, the best trait is the one that fits the Zoi character you envision!

How Traits Affect Gameplay

A trait touches almost every system in the game:

  • Needs Decay: Certain traits slow down or speed up the decay of Needs like Sleep, Energy, Social, Fun, or Hygiene.
  • Mood Tendencies: Traits influence which Moods a Zoi frequently experiences (e.g., Adventurers often feel Excited, Sentinels often feel Worried).
  • Emotional Duration: Some traits make certain emotions last longer or shorter than usual (e.g., Charmers feel Sad longer, Scholars feel Amused shorter).
  • Social Interactions: Traits impact conversation preferences (enjoying/avoiding conversation, liking business/romantic topics) and the ease of building specific Relationships (Family, Friendship, Romance, Business).
  • Urges: The random short-term goals (Urges) a Zoi gets are influenced by their Trait, Values, and Preferences.
  • Value Development: Traits influence a Zoi's starting Values.

Can You Change Traits After Creation?

Not through the interface. The Create a Zoi menu still treats the trait as a one-time choice.

But you can with a cheat. The October 2025 update added setTrait [ZoiID] [TraitID] [CharacteristicID] [CharacteristicID], which works with all 18 traits and all 15 characteristics. Conflicting characteristics passed in the same command are simply ignored. See the cheats guide for how to open the console.

This is the intended fix for existing saves, where removed traits were auto-converted and characteristics assigned at random.

"Tranquil" is now "Content"

The trait table above uses the original emotion names. v0.4.0 renamed the Tranquil emotion to Content. See emotions and moods.

Update history

  • March 28, 2025. Early Access launched with 18 traits, one per Zoi, permanent after creation.
  • October 30, 2025. v0.4.0 merged or removed Entertainer, Volunteer, and Collaborator, added Troublemaker, Recluse, and Rulebreaker, introduced 15 characteristics (two per Zoi), made ambitions player-chosen, reworked urges around traits, and added the setTrait cheat.
  • December 23, 2025. v0.5.0 added the Workaholic characteristic, made conversations reflect a Zoi's characteristics, and gave Zois with Slacker a chance to leave plates and books lying around. The Rulebreaker trait and Malicious characteristic also became unlock conditions for crime.

This guide is based on information available during the Early Access period of inZOI. Features and details may change in future updates.
