inZOI Pregnancy & Family Planning Guide

Expanding your Zoi family by adding children is a central part of the life simulation experience in inZOI. Whether through birth, adoption, or medical help, growing your household adds new layers of gameplay, challenges, and heartwarming moments. This guide details the methods available for family planning in inZOI.

Can Zois Have Children?

Yes! Zois can have children and expand their families in inZOI, and there are now four routes to it — pregnancy, adoption, medical help, and starting with children in Create a Zoi. Marriage is not required for any of them.

Method 1: Pregnancy (Gameplay)

This is the primary method for having biological children within the ongoing simulation.

Requirements for Pregnancy

  1. No marriage needed. Since the June 13, 2025 update, Zois can have children regardless of marital status. At Early Access launch "Suggest Having a Baby" was married-couples-only.
  2. Couple Composition: Natural pregnancy still requires one Male and one Female Zoi. Same-sex couples and single Zois use adoption or medical help instead.
  3. Household Space: The household must have fewer than 8 Zois. If the household is full (8 members), the pregnancy attempt will automatically fail.
  4. Age: Both Zois must be Young Adult, Adult, or Middle-Aged. Children, Teens, and Seniors cannot conceive — v0.2.0 tightened these age restrictions to stop unintended NPC pregnancies.

The Pregnancy Process

  1. Initiation: Select a Zoi, click on their partner, navigate to Romance interactions, and choose "Suggest Having a Baby".
  2. "Try for Baby" Scene: If accepted, the couple will typically seek out a bed for a brief, censored "Set the Mood" (WooHoo) style interaction, often obscured by visual effects like hearts or confetti.
  3. Pregnancy Test: Following the attempt, the female Zoi may receive a notification or moodlet indicating the need to take a pregnancy test. Interact with a toilet and select "Take Pregnancy Test".
  4. Confirmation: A pop-up notification will reveal the result. If positive, congratulations!
  5. Gestation Period: Pregnancy lasts approximately 3 in-game days. During this time:
    • The pregnant Zoi might experience mood swings, unique Urges (like food cravings), or temporary moodlets.
    • A visible baby bump will gradually appear.
    • Appearance editing for the pregnant Zoi is usually disabled.
    • Special interactions related to the pregnancy might become available (e.g., "Feel Baby," "Talk to Tummy").
  6. Giving Birth: After the 3 days, a "Give Birth" notification will appear near the pregnant Zoi's portrait. Clicking this, or waiting for the automatic trigger, initiates a short cutscene (implying a hospital visit). A Newborn Zoi will then appear in a crib within the household. You will be prompted to name the baby.

Method 2: Adoption and Medical Help

Both shipped with the June 13, 2025 update (v0.2.0), and both are accessed from a computer or laptop.

  • Adopt a Child — open to single Zois and couples of any gender combination. Most of the prerequisites originally planned for the system were dropped before release to keep family-building simple.
  • Create a Child with Medical Help (1,000 Mew) — choose a Zoi whose traits you want, and have a child using their genetic information. Useful if you're breeding for particular traits rather than just filling the house.

These are the routes for same-sex couples and single parents.

Method 3: Creating Children in Create-a-Zoi (CAZ)

You can start your game with children already part of the family.

  • Process: During initial family creation, after making your first Zoi, use the "+" icon to add more members. Select Child or Teenager as the Age Group for these additional Zois.
  • Define Relationships: Crucially, set the relationship between the Zois (e.g., select the parent, then add a child and define them as "Son" or "Daughter").
  • Benefit: This allows you to bypass the Newborn and Toddler stages entirely and begin your story with an established family structure.

inZOI Parenting Guide

Post-Birth: Parenting and Childcare

Once a Newborn arrives (either through birth or adoption), new gameplay begins:

  • Newborn Stage: Lasts 1 in-game day. Needs are primarily managed by caregivers.
  • Toddler Stage: Lasts 2 in-game days. Toddlers learn basic Skills, can move around, and require active parenting interactions like feeding formula, changing diapers, playing, and being tucked in.
  • Child Stage: Attends school, develops Values, uses a Smartphone, and engages in more complex interactions.
  • Babysitting Service: Parents can hire Babysitters via the PocketMarket app on the Smartphone to help care for Toddlers, especially useful if both parents work.
  • Parenting Skill: Still not implemented as a trackable skill — it appears in Desired Lives but has never shipped. See the skills list.

Parenting interactions

The parenting toolkit has expanded considerably since launch. Two waves of additions:

v0.4.0, October 2025 — "Give Formula", "Give Snack", "Do Baby Stretches", self-interactions like "Suck on Finger" and "Roll Around", and "Reprimand" for children.

v0.5.0, December 2025 — "Comfort", "Bully", "Wipe Nose", "Give Medicine", "Throw a Fit to Be Tucked In", "Scold Teddy Bear" / "Hug Teddy Bear", "Act Unreasonably", "Demand Food", "Mess with Toilet", and "Flip (Failed)". Animations and emotes for newborn and toddler care were improved at the same time, and the "Ask How to Draw Something" group interaction opened up to child Zois.

Family trees

v0.5.0 added a Family Tree with images of immediate family members, opened via the Family Tree button on the Zoi Card. This was originally a roadmap item for October 2025.

Important Considerations

  • Twins/Triplets: While not a selectable option, gameplay footage and hints suggest multiple births (twins, potentially triplets) are possible through pregnancy, likely determined by random chance.
  • Household Limit: Always remember the 8-Zoi maximum per household. Plan accordingly if you want a large family.
  • Newborns can't move house. v0.4.2 closed a loophole that let family members including newborns and infants change residence.

Family planning is a rich and rewarding aspect of inZOI. Between pregnancy, adoption, and medical help, bringing children into your Zois' lives opens up countless new stories and gameplay opportunities.
