The inZOI team has published its answers to the ModKit AMA, working through community questions days before the toolkit ships. Several answers go well beyond what previous announcements covered — particularly on monetisation, scripting, and what the June release won't do.
Paid mods stay off the table
The modding policy does not permit direct monetisation — no paid mods, no restricted access — with the team's stated reasoning being that all players should be able to enjoy content equally.
It did, however, spell out what is allowed, acknowledging the time and effort modding takes:
- Ad revenue or donation requests on mod distribution platforms.
- Revenue from video content, such as tutorials or showcases on YouTube.
Scripting is coming in December
Asked repeatedly about scripting and source-code-level modding, the team confirmed scripting mods are in development and planned for the December update. The goal described is a flexible system for more complex mods than data editing allows.
In the meantime, there's more flexibility than expected in one area: locomotion can already be modified based on emotional states, so walk styles can be swapped or expanded by working through emotional states and life stages, with buff states as a way to trigger behaviour in specific contexts.
Face and makeup modding comes later
The June ModKit will not include dedicated features for faces, makeup, or skin textures. Creators comfortable with the game's data structure can replace facial textures manually through data editing, but a purpose-built facial ModKit is still in development and expected after September.
Other answers worth knowing
- Exporting Zois to Blender isn't supported. The ModKit ships with base Zoi body meshes and outfit samples to work from instead.
- Mod Browser improvements — categories, tags, and creator pages — are described as actively under review.
