The July 9, 2026 hotfix pulls a feature rather than fixing it — automatic meal preparation is temporarily removed while the team reworks it.

Automatic meal prep removed for now

Zois no longer automatically prepare meals at mealtime. The team says meals were being prepared "in unintended ways" and they'd rather take the feature out than leave it misbehaving, with a plan to bring it back improved.

Autonomous cooking arrived in v0.4.0, where Zois began choosing a random recipe instead of repeating one dish. In the meantime you'll need to direct meals yourself.

Autonomy rework

• Fewer conversations — Zois were talking far too much.
• Better choices when needs are low — they now pick interactions that fit the situation.
• Partially fixed Zois stopping without performing any autonomous behaviour.

Bug fixes

• Fixed Zois who hadn't graduated high school appearing as graduates.
• Fixed milestones being marked as achieved when they weren't. Already-incorrect milestones stay incorrect.
• Fixed infinite loading when switching families in a multi-member household.
• (Mac) Fixed the CAZ window background brightening and lighting flickering.
