Starting a Romance: The First Spark

Before dates or declarations of love, you need to initiate contact and build a basic connection.

  1. Meet Potential Partners: Have your Zoi interact with other Zois they encounter in the city – at work, parks, cafes, or community lots. Any Zoi aged Young Adult or older is a potential romantic interest (subject to preferences).
  2. Initiate Conversation: Click on the target Zoi and choose friendly interactions first (like "Greet," "Chitchat," "Ask About Day"). Building a baseline of positive interaction is helpful.
  3. Introduce Romantic Interactions: Once acquainted, start selecting options from the Romance category (often found under the "More" interaction menu). Look for interactions marked with a heart icon (♥).
    • Start Subtle: Begin with low-commitment options like "Compliment Outfit," "Flirt," or "Tell a Charming Story."
    • Gauge Reactions: Pay attention to the response. Successful interactions will usually show positive feedback (smiles, positive animations, relationship gain notification) and increase the pink 'Love' meter in the Relationships tab (R). Failed interactions might get rejected and slightly lower the relationship score.

Building the Relationship: From Crush to Sweetheart

Consistent positive romantic interactions are key to deepening the bond.

  • Monitor the Love Meter: Regularly check the pink 'Love' bar in the Relationships tab ([R]) for the specific Zoi. The goal is to fill this bar to progress through the levels.
  • Vary Interactions: Use a mix of romantic chat options, compliments, jokes, and eventually more physical interactions like "Hold Hands" or "Kiss" as the relationship progresses.
  • Understand Compatibility: Success isn't guaranteed. A Zoi's Traits, Values, current Mood, and Preferences can influence their receptiveness. Learning about the target Zoi helps tailor your approach.
  • Reach Breakpoints: To move from one major level to the next (e.g., Neutral → Mutual Crush → Sweetheart), you'll often need to successfully perform a specific "Select Relationship" interaction when prompted.

Going on Dates: Planning Romantic Outings

Dates are special events that significantly boost romantic relationships and fulfill the Fun need.

  1. Unlock the Interaction: The option to "Ask on a Date" typically becomes available once the relationship reaches the Mutual Crush or Sweetheart level.
  2. Initiate the Date:
    • Via Interaction: Select the "Ask on a Date" option under Romance when interacting with the target Zoi. If accepted, the date planning interface usually opens.
    • Via Smartphone: Open the Smartphone (P), go to the Events app, choose a time slot, select "Make Event," and choose Date as the Event Type. You can then select your date partner, location, duration, dress code, etc.
  3. Choose a Venue: Select an appropriate location. Cafes (Cafe Mar, Cafe Gaon), lounges (Lounge Gongmyeong), parks (Central Park), amusement parks (Bliss Bay Amusement Park), or even a Zoi's home can work.
  4. Attend the Date: When the scheduled time arrives, you'll be prompted to travel to the location.
  5. Date Activities: During the date, focus on romantic interactions. An event checklist might appear suggesting goals like "Share a Meal," "Flirt Successfully," or "Have a Deep Conversation." Completing these goals enhances the date's success.

Romance Relationship Levels

The Romance track progresses through distinct stages:

  1. Terrible: Deeply negative romantic feelings.
  2. Uncomfortable: Significant dislike or awkwardness.
  3. Ambivalent: Slight negativity or indifference.
  4. Neutral: The starting point, no strong feelings either way.
  5. Mutual Crush: Initial romantic interest is acknowledged.
  6. Sweetheart: A committed dating relationship.
  7. True Love: Deepest level of romantic love, prerequisite for marriage proposals.

Key Romance Interactions

  • Flirt: Basic romantic advance.
  • Compliment: Appreciate appearance or personality.
  • Tell Romantic Story / Whisper Sweet Nothings: Deepens connection.
  • Hold Hands / Embrace / Kiss: Physical affection, unlocked at higher levels.
  • Confess Love: Often needed to move from Mutual Crush to Sweetheart.
  • Ask on a Date: Initiates a planned date event.
  • Suggest Having a Baby: (Married couples only) Initiates attempt to conceive. See Pregnancy Guide
  • Set the Mood: (Sweetheart/True Love+) The "WooHoo" equivalent, often performed at a bed. Does not cause pregnancy on its own.
  • Ask Them to Marry You: (True Love only) Proposes marriage. See Marriage Guide

Important Considerations & Rules

  • Romantic Preferences: Zois have set romantic preferences (selected during creation and often permanent). They will reject romantic advances from genders outside their preference.
  • Age Requirement: Romance interactions and dating are generally only available to Zois who are Young Adult age or older.
  • Exclusivity & Jealousy:
    • Unmarried Zois: Can pursue and maintain romantic relationships with multiple partners simultaneously without jealousy penalties.
    • Married Zois: Do get jealous if they witness their spouse engaging in romantic interactions with someone else. This causes negative moods and relationship damage.
  • Family Restrictions: Zois cannot have romantic relationships with direct family members (parents, children, siblings).
  • Relationship Decay: Like other relationships, the romance meter can decrease over time if neglected or due to negative interactions.

Tips for Successful Romance

  • Be Patient: Start slow with friendly interactions before diving into intense romance.
  • Check Moods: Ensure both Zois are in a receptive, positive mood before initiating romantic interactions.
  • Frequency Matters: Regular, positive interactions build the relationship faster than infrequent ones.
  • Use Dates: Planned dates provide significant boosts to the romance meter.
  • Learn About Them: Tailor conversations and compliments based on their learned Traits and Preferences.
  • Don't Propose Too Soon: Wait for the "True Love" status for the best chance of acceptance.
