The inZOI team has released a statement addressing the growing community discussion around the game's use of generative AI. Its central claim: every dataset behind the game's AI features was either owned by Krafton outright or licensed for commercial use.
This is the dedicated AI announcement that lead developer Kjun promised in his early-May letter.
Text-to-Image: the AI Texture generator
The Text-to-Image (T2I) system behind AI Textures was trained on publicly available images licensed for commercial use:
- 20 million images, selected over several months from public images under Creative Commons licences permitting commercial use and modification.
- Built on MosaicML's Common Canvas methodology, with additional filtering standards applied.
- Trained using open-source AI architectures that are themselves licensed for commercial use.
This is the system powering prompt-based texture generation in Build Mode.
3D printing AI
The in-game 3D Printer — which turns uploaded 2D images into objects and accessories — was trained on roughly 46,000 high-quality 3D models, either owned by Krafton or drawn from datasets permitted for commercial use.
Video-to-Motion
Video-to-Motion (V2M), which converts reference footage into custom Zoi animations, relies mostly on Krafton's own data: over 1.7 million motion samples the team owns and collected itself, supplemented by a limited number of openly licensed public datasets.
The principles the team says it follows
- Using open-source technologies licensed for commercial use.
- Using carefully selected datasets that permit commercial use.
- Running a reporting and review system to handle potential claims quickly.
What this means for players
Nothing changes in-game — this is a transparency statement, not a patch. The common thread across all three systems is licensing: Krafton says everything it trained on was either its own data or material released under terms permitting commercial use, which is the studio's direct answer to the copyright concerns players have raised about AI-generated content since Early Access launched.
These remain optional creative tools: AI Textures, the 3D Printer, and AI Emote are used at your discretion, and Smart Zoi can be switched off entirely — it also carries a heavier GPU requirement when enabled.
