Family & Households Guide for inZOI

Families and households form the central unit of social life in inZOI. Creating, managing, and evolving these family units is key to experiencing the depth of the life simulation. This guide covers everything from creating your first family to managing complex household dynamics, relationships, and expansions.

What is a Family/Household in inZOI?

In inZOI, a Family (also referred to as a Household) is a group of Zois living together in the same residential lot (house or apartment).

  • Composition: Families can consist of spouses, parents, children, siblings, or simply roommates.
  • Playable Unit: You typically control one Zoi at a time, but you can switch between any member of your active household.
  • Shared Resources: Family members living in the same household share finances (Meow).
  • Requirement: Every household must contain at least one Zoi aged Young Adult or older. Child Zois cannot live alone.

Creating and Managing Your Family

Initial Family Creation

When you start a new game, you'll create your first Zoi. After finalizing their basic details and appearance in Create a Zoi, you'll have the option to:

  1. Add Family Members: Click the "+" icon to add more Zois to the initial household.
  2. Set Relationships: Define the initial relationship between the Zois you create (e.g., Spouse, Parent/Child, Sibling, Roommate).
  3. Finalize: Once satisfied, you'll choose a family name and move them into a chosen City and home.

Editing and Adding Members Later

You can modify your family composition after starting the game:

  • Adding New Zois: Go to the City Map ([M]), click Manage Zois, then Manage Family, and select Add Family Member. This re-opens the Create a Zoi interface to add a new character to the household.
  • Moving Zois Between Families: Use the Move Zois Between Families option under Manage Family to transfer Zois between existing households or create new ones by splitting families. This is currently the primary way to have unmarried Zois live together as roommates.

Household Size Limit

  • Max 8 Zois: A single household in inZOI can contain a maximum of 8 Zois.
  • Pregnancy Impact: If a household is full (already has 8 members), any attempts to have a baby via pregnancy will automatically fail. A Zoi must move out or pass away to make space for a newborn.
  • Mods: The developers have hinted that mods might eventually allow players to exceed this 8-Zoi limit.

You can easily see the current number of Zois and available slots in the family portrait panel on the right side of the main UI.

Family Relationships

Within a household, Zois develop specific Family Relationships alongside Friendship, Romance (if applicable), and Business tracks.

  • Who It Applies To: The Family relationship track replaces the Romance track for married couples and exists between parents, children, and siblings.
  • Levels: Ranges from Estranged (most negative) to Loving (most positive), starting at Neutral.
  • Development: Built through specific family-oriented interactions (positive or negative), shared activities, and how needs are met within the household.
  • Restrictions: Direct family members (parents, children, siblings) cannot engage in romantic interactions with each other.

Gameplay Features & Dynamics

Having Children

  • Pregnancy: Currently, the primary way to add children naturally is through pregnancy, which requires a married heterosexual couple using the "Suggest Having a Baby" interaction. See Pregnancy Guide
  • Adoption: An adoption system is planned for the May 2025 update, which will likely provide alternative ways to expand families.

Parenting

  • Interactions: Parents have unique interactions with Newborns and Toddlers, such as feeding formula, changing diapers, checking temperature, playing, telling stories, and tucking them in.
  • Child Development: Parent interactions and the home environment influence a child's skill development (Creativity, Motor Development, Responsibility, Social) and their transition into later life stages.
  • Babysitting: Players can hire Babysitting services via the PocketMarket app to help care for Toddlers, especially useful for working parents.

Household Chores

  • Cleaning & Maintenance: Zois need to clean their homes and wash laundry to maintain hygiene and positive moods. Children rely on older Zois for laundry.
  • Housework Skill: Performing chores develops the Housework skill (or Responsibility skill for children).

Moving House

Families can relocate to different residential lots within the same city. (Note: Moving between different cities is planned for Dec 2025).

Future Feature: Family Tree

A dedicated Family Tree feature is planned for the October 2025 update, according to the Development Roadmap. This will likely provide a visual way to track lineage and relationships across generations, adding more depth to legacy gameplay.

Managing families and households is a central part of the inZOI experience, offering rich storytelling opportunities through births, marriages, conflicts, and the everyday interactions that shape your Zois' lives together.
